Planning Whether you are building the green house for your residence or office or for other commercial purpose its important to draft a blue print of the technical knowhow.
Also decide the type of plants you are to grow and then proceed with the set up. Then work upon the size of the house. The sizes vary from 6 – 4.5 feet to 20 – 10 ft. It is very essential to choose the more suitable size depending upon the plant we are to grow.
Structure
Now the decision has to be made whether to build a glass or a plastic or a wooden green house depending upon the type of crop. Aluminum alloy frames can be used as it is durable and much cheaper than wood. The ordinary PVC pipe frames are also available in plenty in the market. The wooden green houses are the most traditional one. But the wooden green houses are durable for only about fifteen years. When compared to the artificial materials such pipes and frames wooden green houses have a more natural appeal. Black wood is more suitable for the green houses.
Flooring
Concrete flooring with terracotta tiles are required in the center for the pathway.
Watering
As the green house is a closed place, rain water cannot be used for the growth of plants. Hence proper irrigation plans has to be laid down. A hose pipe or an artificial water trickling or spraying system can be used depending on the size of the house.
A thermometer and heating and cooling equipment needs to be fixed.
Thus a green house is done by ourselves and can be pursued as a hobby.

How to Help Children do School Projects on Their Own
School projects can be a pain, and what all parents dread, but projects do not have to be so stressful.
You may have to help your child through his first few school projects, but there is no reason to keep on helping him if you use a plan that can be applied to all written projects, no matter what the topic is. A good plan will reduce stress for the parent, will free up time for the parent, will help the child learn how to cope with doing a project with no help from his mother or father at all, and will result in wonderful projects that please the teacher.
Don’t you find you usually help your child through the same steps, in the same order, each time he requires assistance from you? Why put yourself through explaining the procedure each time, when you could just write it all down, or type it up and print it? Your child can look at the notes each time he gets a school project.
A notice is usually sent out by the class teacher listing the requirements for the project such as questions that need to be answered and explained in the presentation, and how many marks are assigned to each section of the written work, as well as to the presentation of the writing or pictures, and sometimes includes marks assigned to an oral too.
With the criteria available to your child, there is no excuse not to deliver an excellent project, but this won’t be achieved if not adhering to the criteria. Time management is also important. It’s no use trying to successfully complete a task if only starting on the planning of it the night before it’s due!
Sit down with your child and go through the assignment criteria with him. Discuss what you and he think will be good ways to deliver everything that is required.
This will be the first item on the list that you prepare for use with every project thereafter:
Look at the requirements.
What comes next on the list?
Think about how best to present the information, and note down how many marks are assigned to each section. Jot down other notes too such as “Not many marks are assigned to including a map, and I therefore don’t have to spend a lot of time on drawing or finding a very large one. It can be quite small as long as it is neat and I properly label it. I should rather spend more time on the sections that can get more marks, instead of running out of time to finish the project before it is due, which might happen if I spend too much time on only a small part of the project.”
Just because it’s easy and convenient to do all the research for a school project on the Internet, try not to use only the Internet. Making use of all resources available better prepares a child for the real world after school. If it’s too much of an inconvenience to get yourself and your child to a public library – although you should make the effort – then invest in various encyclopaedias and other informative books to keep at home, especially if you have more than just one or two children. Combine information from both books and the Internet. Always include a bibliography. With books, write down the pages you referred to too. With the Internet, save the link of the website page you got your information from.
When using books for retrieving the information you need for a school project, roughly prepare a piece of paper or notebook with headings for the different parts of your project, then jot down information that you find that is related to each part, and include the name of the book and the page that you found the information on. Always write in your own words. Use a thesaurus, if necessary, to help you find synonyms for different words or phrases.
If not wanting to spend too much time on the Internet due to the expense or somebody else in the family also needing to use the same computer, then instead of copying and pasting certain sections of online articles into their appropriate folders on the computer, then save whole pages to the various folders you have in the main project folder. Print out the pages, and go through them with a pencil, marking sections or sentences that refer to each part of the project with a letter or number that makes sense to the child. If using numbers for example, then the child should have a key saying which number represents which section of the project. If using letters or short abbreviations, then a key may not be required as long at the child always has the original criteria notice nearby to refer to all the time. For example the letters NE could represent the natural environment of an animal, M could represent movement of the animal, F could represent the food the animal eats, and R could represent the reproduction of the animal.
Depending on how much time is still available before the project is due, a really rough version could be created on scrap paper before the final is written up or typed up. This can help get all information, from both the books and the Internet into their correct sections, and can help make it clearer where two sentences are too similar to include both, or can be blended together in some way. When taking notes from various books, articles or websites, it may often happen that information is repeated, that should certainly not be used all over to merely fill up the pages of a project. The project should be well written and flow well.
You may need to pin up more than just one list on the wall for your child to refer to when doing school projects. You could have a list telling the child the order in which the steps to complete a project should be done. Another list can have points to remember when getting information from books, and another one can refer to what to remember when getting information from the Internet.
You may also want to include a title at the top of each list that says “Refer to this before asking Mom!”

Hardwood Floor Installation: Do-It-Yourself Project

When searching for flooring for your house which is not only sturdy but good-looking, wood is the best option. Hardwood flooring provides a sensible solution for just about every room of your house. Hardwood is not just a good flooring choice for the main rooms of the property, but for kitchens, baths, and more.
If the hardwood floor installation will be done by the owner, it is best to use planks that have already been finished. Unless you are an expert at operating a drum sander, you would not want to try using unfinished wood. The sander can leave grooves in the floor if not perfectly done.
The wood floorboards should be stored inside the home for a couple days prior to them being used. This is so that the wood can get used to the humidity inside the house. Hardwood planks should be placed across the joists in the floor.
After examining the sub-flooring, take the shoe moulding off the walls, sweep up any dirt, and replace the flooring. Vapor barrier paper will have to be laid down, with 4 inches overlapping each edge. Fasten the paper to the sub-flooring For around , you can purchase rolls of 15 pound tar paper or felt. Mark the location of the joists with a lead pen.
Place a long board against your longest wall, and prep it for pilot holes, by utilizing a chalk line. Drill holes past the board and sub-floor and in the joist. Face nail each board of the first row, and set them with a nail set. Make certain that the groove side of the boards faces the walls.
Covering up your nail holes with matching wood putty as you work is a great idea. This way you will not have to look for the holes later on. After face nailing the whole first row and patching, place the boards for the next row.
Notice how the wood flooring latches piece to piece. Using the same methods for every row and cover the entire floor with the wood planks. Leave a 3/8 inch space between the last row and the wall to allow for expansion. Clean up any dust and dirt and finally replace the shoe moulding.

Tim DeWinter, the director of our Projects Abroad Peru programme tells us about his incredible recent discovery of an Inca settlement:

Can one find a whole “forgotten” city in the 21st century? Is that still possible? With modern satellite images surely everything has been found already? Well, our adventure proves that in the Antisuyo, remote provinces north of Cusco, there are still discoveries to be made by the intrepid and adventurous.
Since 1994, when I arrived in Peru, walking in the Andes has been one of my favourite pastimes and while working for UNICEF from 1997 onwards, I had the opportunity to combine work and pleasure. No Peruvian UNICEF consultant was keen on leaving their families behind to go to the remotest areas of Cusco. I, on the other hand, was single and loved it, so basically from Monday to Friday I walked in this land reserved for the strongest under an impossibly blue sky, marvelling at the beauty and ruggedness of this wonderful mountain range.
Several years later, working for Projects Abroad in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, with a family of my own, I had fewer opportunities to hike off into the unknown. However, one of the programmes that Projects Abroad runs in Peru is called the Inca Projects and in 2005 we decided to combine the archaeological and community development activities with exploration and hiking. Our volunteers loved the prospect of doing treks in the less touristy parts of the Andes and we enjoyed organising it for them. Maps have always been a source of hidden walks for me and I studied them whenever I could. I have many topographical maps of the region and studied these carefully before hiking a new route, so we knew what we would be up against.
My friends Americo, Carlos, Walter and myself decided to explore a mountain ridge in the region known as the Eyebrow of the Jungle, next to the Lucumayo river in the Huayopata district. Our team’s field experience and friendship would make this an enjoyable trip. I had a hunch that there would be some kind of Inca structure up there, it was a strategic viewpoint and other small Inca structures where known to be a few hours walk further upstream the Vilcanota river.
We started the day early at 5am, but were held up by some local farmers that had used the road up towards the hill for making mud bricks. We carried 65 pound rucksacks for the three day hike we had planned and it was hot and humid. By midday, our luck turned, we stopped at a clearing and met a hunter, his name was Eloy. One of the golden rules of exploration is to listen to the campesinos, they know where everything is. Eloy was no exception to the rule.
He told us he knew of a small wall and after having shared lunch with him, he took us further up the hill. The forest was dense and challenging, the rucksacks were left behind and we marched on with our machetes in hand, swinging at all the dense green foliage blocking our path. Eloy showed us the wall; it turned out to be a room, mostly still underground, covered in bush and by the years of decomposing forest. The amount of tangled growth is hard to explain unless you have experienced it. It was a typical Inca house, of normal proportions, and next to it another one, and another one. We immediately thanked the magical apu mountain spirits which mean everything to the campesinos and are directly linked to the Pacha Mama (Mother Earth).
Eloy was not surprised by our small ceremony, but he was shocked that for many years he had been hunting in these forests without having had a clue of their importance. He became excited and told us that if these bumps on the jungle floor were walls, then he knew some more bumps on hills close by. That was when it hit us, more bumps! This was not just a small settlement. We decided to go back and set up camp and for Eloy to take us to the other bumps early the next day.
Sleeping was difficult as our adrenaline levels were high and at 5am the next morning we were ready. Eloy arrived at the campsite and we took off for what turned out to be an amazing day of exploring. We walked through forests and found many tombs, circular, rectangular and square structures hidden under the thick of the jungle floor. The remains were so heavily overgrown that we are still unsure of the extent of the ruins, but having found over 40 structures in different places on the hilltops, with over 2 miles between them, we were confident that it played an important role in one of the best and largest networks of paved road ever built by pre-industrial man, the Qapaq Nan. The realisation that it must be connected to Machu Picchu, the beautiful and wonderful city in the cloud forest and the best known site in the Antisuyo, made it even more exciting.
The settlement looked over an extremely fertile and extensively cultivated glacial valley on one side and on the other side was the Vilcanota Valley. Machu Picchu was a one day walk upstream. Needless to say, what we had found had huge potential.
Were we on the verge of finding a missing link and opening a real new Inca Trail?
When we later arrived back in Cusco we suppressed the temptation to go straight to the local radio and TV stations and decided to consult the National Institute of Culture (INC) first. Maybe they knew about the ruins, maybe they had more information about them, maybe they had a map already?
Projects Abroad had signed a formal agreement with the INC last year and our many contacts were able to investigate if their Site Registry knew anything about this site, they didn’t. The result was amazing; no one had surveyed this site or bothered to visit this strategic geographical feature. If the INC was unaware of our findings, we had to regulate this quickly, letters were sent, all mentioning our willingness to share information and receive a visit from one of their investigation teams.
On September 29th 2006, we took two archaeologists with us back to the area. Francisco Solis and Italo Oberti are recognised archaeologists in the region and were eager to be part of these initial stages. They were amazed by our finds. They confirmed that it was a big Inca settlement, probably over 500 years old and pointed out the stone and thatch building techniques of the highland Incas. They were surprised by the many different types of structures and thanked us for contacting them so quickly, as many findings are kept secret from the INC so people can ransack the place beforehand.
The Incas didn’t like the lower altitudes with the mosquitoes and diseases, the heat and humidity, so maybe the cooler Lucumayo Valley, a wonderful food basket, was worked by the inhabitants of our newfound city. The land itself provided the materials for building and the fertile valley was there for farming, maybe even producing food for the inhabitants of Machu Picchu, just a day’s walk away!
What we did many others could have done and still can do. There must be numerous unstudied ruins, unexplored valleys and hilltops, especially on the edge of the rainforest, still waiting to be discovered.

The beginning of December saw Projects Abroad Senegal help to coordinate an AIDS awareness day with our local partner AFE in the Pikine district of St.Louis.
On Friday 1st December, otherwise known as global AIDS Awareness Day, Projects Abroad staff and volunteers took to the streets of Pikine with local partner Action Femmes Enfants – AFE, for an AIDS awareness march. Desk Officer – Kristina Fitzpatrick tells us about the day:
‘It was by all means an early start – 7am! We met in Sor to distribute T-shirts and see the artistic results of volunteers who had created a Projects Abroad banner for the march. After a long walk through the sand to the AFE centre, we established our route, and also met up with some of our well known “artiste” friends, who were to provide the music and entertainment for the march!
Once the route had been completely decided – which obviously took a little while, bearing in mind we are on Senegalese time, we set off, quite quietly and slowly at first, around the dusty and tiny streets of Pikine. Pikine is the poorest residential area of St.Louis, with a population of around 70,000 people, almost a third of the total number of people who live in St.Louis; a truly staggering amount, and therefore a really important area in which to increase awareness about AIDS and HIV.
Our T-shirts, banners and music soon began to attract a large crowd, and by the time we reached the entertainers at a specific point of the route, there were at least 150 local people following us in addition to all of the Projects Abroad representatives and AFE staff.
What was brilliant about this was the opportunity to hand out flyers created by Projects Abroad about AIDS and HIV – with information such as what the virus is, its presence in Senegal, how it can be contracted, preventative measures etc, as well as an invitation to have a free HIV test during the course of the day.
By this stage the march was large and noisy, as we had predicted, with police escorts who accompanied us to a local medical centre, where the queue began for free HIV testing.
It was, all in all, a brilliant morning that achieved everything it was meant to do – raise the profile about AIDS and HIV locally, provide free HIV testing for local people, and be a small part of AIDS awareness day on a global scale. A big thank you and well done to all the volunteers that were involved!’

Go to the internet and search for pictures of bathrooms people have done themselves. You can get all sorts of ideas from this source. Magazines are another good place to get ideas. You can often find books on bathroom remodeling that will be a big help to you and not only give you some great ideas but will tell you how to do the work yourself.
Sometimes all it takes to get the bathroom of your dreams is to add a new shower curtain, towels, and fixtures on the sink and tub. By adding new fixtures you can get the look of a whole new sink or tub. Fixtures add a lot to a bathroom and people will notice the new touches you have added. If you paint the bathroom new colors you can change the feel of a bathroom. Matching or contrasting towels just add to the beauty of your bathroom.
If you want to add a new floor you can tile yourself if you get a how to book. Do a design that will complement the rest of the bathroom.
Simple Do-it-yourself Project For The Winter
I dont know about you guys but I get so fed up doing nothing during the cold winter months. I cannot get out in the garden as it is so wet and cold. I need a project that I can get stuck into for a good period of time. I gave it some thought and came up with a good cunning plan. I sat the wife down and asked her what jobs would she like me to do around the house? I told her if I do all the do- it- yourself jobs around the house during the winter I will go on a lads holiday during the spring. She came up with a long list. Most of the jobs were in the kitchen. The list read – broken floor tiles, broken wall tile, laminate floor lifting by kitchen sink, worktops scratched and water damaged.
On viewing the list it seemed to me we needed a new kitchen. I decided to offer exactly that. We took a trip to the local do it yourself store. We went to the kitchen area to view the display models. We decided to go the whole hog and fit all instigated appliances and possibly a bespoke sink unit. I have always wanted an island for the cooker.
Before we left I had taken all the measurements of the kitchen where the door was etc. I used some of my kids graph paper from a school book so my floor plan was to scale. Then we asked a sales representative for some advice and we gave him the plan. At this moment I considered it important to tell him what our budget was. Just so we do not waste any time.
He said go and get a tea or coffee and come back in half an hour. He would then show us some plans of kitchens that would fit our budget and desires. After the half hour was up, we returned to his desk. I can tell you I was excited about my do-it-yourself kitchen project.
When he showed the first plan I could tell the wife did not like the lay out and style. The second had a totally different effect. She loved it. It was within budget and all the fixtures and fittings where included as were the appliances. The kitchen designer went on to inform us that off the shelf units would be ok as the measurements we supplied him were standard.
We got a trolley and collected the kitchen units. It took three loads as our car is only small. The appliances will follow in a day or two. But that is good as I need to rip out the old kitchen and make it ready for the new appliances including the plumbing work. On the whole it was a brilliant simple do-it-yourself project for the winter. It kept me busy and got me big points with the wife. We also improved the value of our house.

Acrylic paints are quick drying and water soluble. They are very similar to latex wall paints, but can be purchased in smaller sizes. You can find acrylic paints at your local hobby store or even the craft section of your local Wal-Mart.
Do you have some latex wall paint left over from another project? If you want to use it, go ahead! Latex wall paints and acrylic craft paints are compatible products and can by used interchangeably when painting murals.
Step Three: Choose the Right Brushes
As tempting as it may be, now is not the time to raid your son’s crayon box for the paintbrush that came with his watercolor set. However, a quick trip to the craft store may leave you scratching your head. There are so many options when it comes to paintbrushes. How do you pick the right one for your project?
Paintbrushes are made with natural animal hair, synthetic fibers, or a combination of both. The best brushes for use with acrylic paints are high quality synthetic brushes. The heads on brushes also come in many different shapes and sizes. For painting wall murals, you will need more than one type of brush. At a minimum, you should purchase a wide, flat brush for painting the large areas of your mural and a round paintbrush for adding details and outlining images.
Step Four: Applying Varnish
When painting wall murals, the last step is to protect your finished masterpiece. After all, you want it to look great for many years to come, right? If your mural is located in a high traffic area, such as an entryway or busy hallway, it is especially important that you seal it with a water-based varnish.
